Safe driving is your responsibility!

At the Bahamas Telecommunications Company, ensuring our customers are fully aware of their responsibility to drive safely while using wireless phones is one of our primary concerns.

We recognize that wireless technology plays a significant role in our daily lives. Your wireless phone is your instant line of communication and your strongest link while you are away from your office, your home, your family. Please remember...

Safe Driving is your first priority. In the event of any emergency, proper procedures and accurate details and reporting of emergency situations will allow the appropriate response authorities to respond quickly. This can make the difference between life and death in many circumstances.

If you see a stranded motorist displaying a "Help" or "Call Police Sign", please do not stop unless you know them personally. Note the location, description of the vehicle and call the police-they will send assistance.

In the event you see an emergency where there is an immediate threat to life or property that needs immediate attention (example: fire, serious auto accident, persons down, crimes-in-progress) you should:

  • Pull off to the side of the road
  • Dial 919 on your wireless phone
  • Give the exact details of the emergency, location etc
  • Identify the emergency support required. (ie) police, fire or ambulance
  • Stay in contact until all the necessary information has been relayed

Please do not use your hand-held wireless telephone while driving. If you must use your hand-held phone on the road, please park your automobile before dialing.

Today, most wireless phone manufacturers offer a wide variety of safety driving accessories as options for their products.

Handsfree/Speakerphone

A hands-free driving headset or dash mounted speaker phone is highly recommended for all driving conditions. This allows you to keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.

Voice-Messaging

Voice-Messaging allows you to receive all your calls while driving. You can easily retrieve your messages at any time, or you can return your calls when the time is safe and convenient.

Speed Dial

Most wireless phones have a Frequent Dialed Number Directory. Using a speed dial number reduces the amount of time spent dialing. If you must speak and drive, the combination of Speed dialing and Hands Free Headset, is the best possible solution.

Please Buckle-Up. It’s the law.
