BTC is set to soft launch the Picture Texting (MMS) and GPRS (mobile data services) for prepaid and postpaid customers. Persons who wish to participate in this program are asked to complete the form below. Upon completion and submission of the form, a BTC customer service representative will contact you to assist with service activation.
Please note that this service is not available for BlackBerry customers or customers who purchased devices from US or international operators. For assistance or confirmation of the devices that are acceptable, please contact BTC Customer Care Department at CALL-BTC (225-5282).
The rate for Picture Texting is $0.20 per message. The rate for GPRS (mobile data services) is $0.40 per MB. Customers participating in the soft launch will be charged for the service. See below for Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

What is Multimedia Messaging (MMS) or
Picture Texting?
Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), commonly referred to as Picture Texting, is a new mobile messaging service. Like SMS (Short Messaging Service), MMS (Picture Texting) is a way to send a media message from one phone to another. However, with MMS (Picture Texting) the message does not only include text, but it may also include an audio, picture, image or video attachment.
Do I need a GPRS subscription to utilize the
MMS (Picture Texting) service?
Yes, MMS (Picture Texting) is supported by General Packet Radio Services (GPRS). MMS (Picture Texting) uses GPRS to transport the service. In other words, without a subscription to GPRS the customer will not be able to send or receive an MMS (Picture Text).
Who can send an MMS (Picture Text)?
BTC subscribers can send and receive an MMS (Picture Text) from anyone on the BTC cellular network.
Does BTC support international MMS (Picture Texting)?
Presently, BTC does not support international MMS (Picture Texting).
What phones/device support MMS (Picture Texting)?
Only devices purchased at BTC can be guaranteed to support MMS (Picture Texting).
How to sign-up for MMS (Picture Texting) services?
You can sign-up for MMS via BTC's website. Upon completion and submission of the form, a BTC customer service representative will contact you within 24 hours to assist with service activation.
To receive MMS (Picture Texting) you must do the following:
- Ensure your phone is configured with the appropriate MMS (Picture Texting) and GPRS settings:
- After signing-up for MMS (Picture Texting), send an MMS (Picture Texting) message to yourself to activate the subscription. Once the message is successfully sent and received, you can send and receive messages to friends and family.
What should you do to activate the service after
signing-up?
After signing-up for MMS, you will have to first send an MMS (Picture Text) message to yourself to activate the service. Depending on network traffic, this may take 2 to 5 minutes. Once the message has been successfully sent and received, messages can be sent to friends and family.
Should the recipient also have MMS (Picture Texting) services?
The recipient of an MMS (Picture Text) should have a compatible cell phone and a subscription for MMS (Picture Texting) services. If their phone does not support MMS or if they do not have MMS service, they cannot receive multimedia messages via MMS.
Can BlackBerry Customers send/receive an MMS or (Picture Text)?
Please note that presently, BlackBerry customers will not be able to send/receive MMS.
How to send an MMS (Picture Text)?
Sending an MMS (Picture Text) is as easy! You can take pictures with your camera phone, upload audio or video clips and send them to your friends and family.
To send an MMS (Picture Text) follow these simple steps:
- Take the photo, upload the image or record the audio and save it to your phone
- From your phone's Message Center select compose MMS
- Enter your friend's ten digit mobile phone number, for e.g.: 242-555-5555.
- Personalize your MMS and click send to deliver the message
How will a customer know if they have been sent a MMS?
The majority of phones in the market have audible or visual notifications. The audible notification provides an alert that a customer can hear informing him/her that a message has been received. The visual notification usual appears as an envelope icon on the cellular phone notifying the customer that a message has been received.
Can a customer receive messages the phone is
turned off?
BTC's network stores MMS for a later delivery while the phone is powered off. Once the phone is turned on, the network will attempt to deliver your MMS messages once the customer is in a BTC service/coverage area.
How much is it to send an MMS (Picture Text)?
Prepaid customers are billed $0.20 per MMS (Picture Texting) on a pay as you go basis. Postpaid customers can opt to pay per MMS or sign up for MMS packages. Will customers pay for GPRS traffic charges when sending/receiving an MMS?
No, customers will not be billed traffic charges when sending/receiving an MMS. However, customers deciding to browse the internet will be charged 40 cents per MB. Prepaid customers should be aware that a minimum balance of $1.00 is required to use GPRS.
